Pilot microsite

The Future of Science

How the United States funds, organises and learns from science is changing faster than the institutions built to do it. This is where FAS's work on metascience, open science and the federal research enterprise comes together.

Design note This is RFP item C: the pilot microsite, built from a reusable template. It keeps fas.org's language (off-white ground, FAS blue, light headings, mono labels with the triangle marker, hairline rules) and takes the science issue colour as its accent. The text is ours, written from FAS's published Metascience page; the publications below are FAS's own.

Design note Topics now show on every card (RFP item D). They're FAS's real terms for these publications, which is also why the term list needs tidying first: this set alone carries both Science funding and science funding innovation, and both evidence and Evidence-Based Policymaking.

Ideas in motion

Design note RFP item A: a carousel FAS staff fill from the editor. It never moves on its own, so there's nothing to pause; every slide is reachable by keyboard and announced as “2 of 5”. Without JavaScript the slides simply stack. The dial artwork is generated, not a photo.

By the numbers

A featured chart block, drawn in FAS blue, with the numbers readable as a table for anyone who can't see the chart.

Design note RFP item A, featured data visualisation. In production staff can paste a Datawrapper or Tableau link into the same block. This one is native: no third-party script, so the page stays as light as fas.org is today.

From our channels

Design note RFP item B, homepage feed. Layout only: we don't reproduce FAS's posts in a concept. In production the posts come from FAS's own accounts through a feed service, quoted at cost, and load only after the page has, so the homepage gets no slower.
